The only other thing to consider, however, is that Mac displays are not standard 16:9 ration. If you use the quicktime player method + display capture, an easy way to design your overlay is to open up QuickTime, get your iPad mirrored and positioned where you want it (defo recommend either flush left, or flush right to your display), then screen cap your whole display, import the screencap to PS or AI and then design on top of it so you know how much space you need to cover. I have an overlay that covers the gap, and then an additional overlay/frame for my webcam. So you'll need to make a "frame" or overlay in photoshop or illustrator (I make mine in AI and export to PNG scaled exactly to my OBS canvas size) to "cover" that gap. So when you mirror the iPad, you'll end up with a fairly wide bar at the left or right side (your choice depending on how you set your scene up in OBS) where the iPad mirror doesn't cover (iPads are more square-ish). So the iPad is a different aspect ratio than your macbook display. Thanks to /u/iTruthful and Conceptional for the art!
